Description

A route that's easy to get to having a large car park and also close to Balloch railway station. The route contains a loop within a loop just to make you dizzy.
A short path from the car park takes you into the couintry park beside the main gate. You can of course do this short section by running on the pavement of Balloch Road. Once in the park you follow the main tarred road up an easy incline for about
1 Kms
and you will see the trail marked on your right as you reach the castle. Once on the trail you are in woodland with little in the way of views and some short steep sections to get the heart rate up.
Although there are a few turns the route is simple enough to follow where at
3.6 Kms
you leave a dirt road to take the fisrt of the loops and the inner one. Here you get more out into the open and the first views of Loch Lomond. This inner loop brings you back onto the dirt road you were on but this time keep straight on following the dirt road as you start on the outer loop. This loop is mainly downhill, but doesn't feel like it for long sections. Also on this part you will get some wonderful views of Loch Lomond and Ben Lomond - that is of course depending on our Scottish weather.
The route eventually becomes a small tarred road and leads you round and back to Balloch Castle and from there you follow the same road back to the car park. You might meet some cars but generally these are few and far between.
