Description
Now that we have actually ran the race we have updated this review. The route map has also been updated showing the correct direction around the Trident part.
This is a small but very friendly event run by Helensburgh AAC. The car park is a reasonable size and there is street parking close by. We arrived shortly before the start and the number pick up was super quick and so out to the nearby start line.
The first part of the race is round the edges of he rugby fields which was the only part that felt a little congested. Once past the fields you go from grass to a mix of dirt paths and roads where at about
0.6 Kms
your hit the start of the climbs. This race is mainly all up in the first half and all down in the second. The first
2 Kms
takes you up about 129 m
so a nice start to get the heart rate up. During this early part you also have a set of stairs down and up across a small burn. Single file at this point. On reaching the Highland mans way you have an incline for a short distance before a steep downhill to the gates at
3.2 Kms
. From here you start the hardest part of the race where over the next 1.6 Kms
you climb 165 m
but it seems much longer. The 5KM marker at the side of the road is half way and is just about inline with the start of the downhill. Great enjoyable running now where you can really stretch out those legs. You end up back on the Highland mans way and once there it is back the way you came to the finish. Hitting the grass at the end seems to suck the strength out of the legs but hey it iss only a short distance.
No medals but such a low cost race and provision of lots of baking. Lovely day for it in the inaugural 2024 run and we hope this one survives to be an annual event.
