Getting In
Get in early to secure a place, but no qualification criteria.
Getting there
You have to catch the frequent ferry service from Oban which should ideally be booked in advance if you are travellining by car. The main route ferry to Mull leaves from Oban and runs several times a day.
Expo
Not applicable
Pre-run
Nothing organised but there are many options around the island if you need a wee run the day before.
Race day
This race starts aroung 1pm which is late for a run. The reason behind this seems for allowing the foot passangers on the ferry the opportunity to get over to the island and back from Oban.
The race regisration is in Craigmore at the community hall and from there a short walk to the start line - well about 10 to 15 minutes. Don't be surprised if this race starts a little late.
The race itself follows the main road up to Salen, after a short out and back in Craigmore to make up the distance.
The road has traffic on it, but not a lot and you get lots of waves from them. You are running along beside the water for a lot of it and the views are rather nice, though it does get a little samish after a while. Note that the run is a little undulating and you can have the wind in your face the whole way, so perhaps not the best opertunity for a PB unless the wind is in your favour.
The whole event is super friendly and one we are gald to have completed.
The finish
The finish is in Salen which is a very small village with one hotel and a few houses. If you are staying near Salen then there is usually a party to be had in the evening. The finish line is beside the main street which you can see from our pictures.
Buses run from the finish back to the ferry terminal for those foot passangers travelling back to Oban.
Where to stay
We stayed In Tobermorey which was great. About 30 minutes drive from the start but much more going on here compared to the start and end locations.
Lots of people stay in Oban and get the ferry over in the morning as a passenger. So consider that as an option as well.
