Description

For us in 2023 it was a chilly start and light rain - we ditched the waterproof prior to the start and it was the correct decision.
The race is a mix of forest roads and trail, some of the trail being technical but very enjoyable.
This is not a run for a PB due to the amount of climb, but it really is a wonderful half marathon and very well organised.
The first
14 Kms
or so of the run is mainly up with stunning views every so often. Parts of this are steep and for us we were running up a small stream in parts.
The later part of the route although mainly downhill does contain at least one killer short hill - just when you think all the climbing is over with.
At the later stages you join up with the 10k runners and a lovely trail section through the trees downhill to the end which is out in the open and across the grass field.
We recorded less than a normal half marathon distance on this one, which seemed to agree with other runners we spoke with - perhaps too many trees.
Getting in
Nothing special to do, just enter on the web site.
Getting there
Basically it is either taking the bus from Edinburgh or travelling by car.
Lots of parking provided.
Start
The race starts close to the restaurant at Glentress forest park. Number pick up is in the restaurant with the start line being a short walk away.Food, toilets, large car park and baggage drop are all available.
End
End of the race is right back at the start, with a nice wee short run across a field.
Finish
Nothing fancy, just an inflatable finish line and a good cheering crowd. Nice medal, water, food etc
Staying
We choose to drive down and back on the same day but there is lots of accommodation in Peebles or different options in Glentress itself
