Description

2023 was a wet and misty race so perhaps we missed the best of this run. And backin 2024 where again the weather was not the best, but at least it was dry.
We parked up at the community school where the registration was. This was all nice and quick with toilet facilities available. We stayed here until about 20 minutes before the race started and then walked down the short distance to the start line. In 2024 we got wise and went to Kisa for some food and coffee before the start.
The start is in a small grassy field where you can see the route heading downhill for the first section. From the off the race is busy with other runners and this is made worse with the mudddy downhill where many seem to be trying to keep their trainers clean. The muddy section gives way to a narrow path to take you under the main road and onto a trail. From here you have about
3 Kms
of uphill running on a mix of trail, country road and dirt road.
We are told the views are wonderful, but the mist was hanging on in there to prevent any sight. Just after the
4 Kms
mark you cross the muddiest part of the run. This features a lot on the race Facebook page, so have a look. Yes is is supper slippy in parts, but we saw only one fall.
The race then starts a descent, which for the first part is wonderful running. Good quality trail path and not too steep. There are a couple of small stream crossings to go through so you can get rid of all the mud on your shoes. Well for the time being anyway.
At
7.9 Kms
you rejoin the trail section you came out on and a long downhill almost all the way to the start.
The last
500 m
will drain any energy left in your legs as a run through a field that gets very muddy awaits. In 2023 we face planted about
300 m
from the end so a right old mess for the drive home. Much wiser in 2024.
All in all, a great 10K with a great crew, outstanding medal and a nice wee buff as well. We will be back.
Getting in
Easy enough to get into the race but don't be tempted to leave it to last minute as the places seem to vanish in a hurry.
Getting there
We drove and there are limited bus and train options to the town
