Description

Bienn Ime is one of Arrochar's Munroes at a height
1011 m
though our Garmin watch only recorded a maximum height of
995 m
, perhaps we should go back and try to fix that. Anyway here's our review of the day out, but since it wasn't the best of weather days some of the pictures are from a visit to the Cobbler as it uses much of the same path on the way up. We have decided to include the misty pictures as well, just for proof.
The start from the car park is easy enough but you do have to cross the main road. The start of hill path is directly opposite the car park. Once across you start the first section of the zig-zag path for about
1 Kms
before arriving on a forest road. A left turn here and then the hill path is close by and the zig-zag uphill continues. This second section of zig-zags is different from the first but not sure which is worst. At about
2.5 Kms
you leave the tree line and the views open up.
Once in the open the path does become more technical, though not too bad. Just lots of big rocks doing their best to trip you up. Great views of the Cobbler and back towards Arrochar on this part and at around
5 Kms
you have about
1 Kms
of almost flat running.
This route follows the same path as the main Cobbler route (the one with the staircase). It branches to the right while the Cobbler path heads uphill to the left. At this point you Beinn Ime should be in view and after about
1 Kms
you start the hard climb to the top. The terrain makes this section the toughest with lots of loose boulders to contend with. At stages this can seem a bit of a slog.
Once on top what a wonderful view - well we assume so as after 3 runs up here we have only ever had mist. Hope you have much better luck. Although you head back the way you came, it is worth taking extra care on this first downhill section. A trip is never too far away.
Do you have some good pictures from the top you can share ? - please send using the email listed at the bottom of each page. You'll get your reward in heaven along with our thanks and a mention on the page.
