Description
Not a half marathon for a PB as there is about
240 m
of elevation overall which hits you mainly in the scond half . We did this as part of the Double Dare, where the 10K is ran on the Saturday with the half on the Sunday. Not as bad as expected. We arrived early collected the numbers real quick and decided yesterday's visit to the Kisa cafe was a success so went back for more coffee and pancakes. We had intended on returning post race but stomachs said NO. From Kisa back to the school and one last visit to the toilets and then to the start line in the field. They moved it a short distance from the day before, but there was no fooling us and we worked out where to stand. The half doesn't have such a long uphill at the start as the 10K which does feel nicer, and from
3 Kms
you are mostly running downhill.Don't be fooled as when you hit
8.6 Kms
you are basically climbing to 18.4 Kms
. Some of the sections seem to stretch out for miles and miles in front of you, but you will manage.Back into town and now we are mostly downhill and back to the school playing fields and the finish line. A short minor uphill is there just before getting into the school grounds but by then who cares.
Getting in
Best to follow the Auchterarder Running Festival Facebook page for updates on when the race opens on EntryCentral. Seems to be easy to get in even close to race day.
Getting there
Auchterarder lies about half way between Perth and Stirling so getting there is easy if you are driving, lots of parking available as well. Buses from Perth give you another limited option.
Start
Race starts in the playing field beside the community school. So the toilets are close along with car parking.
End
Ends back at the commmunity school
Finish
The same as the 10K as you are back at the school where they take real good care of you with water, biscuits, bananas, cakes , medals .. and the list goes on. And of course for those who have Double Dared there are two medals to be had.
Staying
Close to Gleneagles Golf course so if planning on staying don't expect cheap.
